Doomed To Repeat It

Over at the The American Prospect, Harold Meyerson argues that the real escalation last night came in Bush’s provocative language directed towards Iran and Syria. Now comes word that just as Bush was finishing his speech, “American forces raided the Iranian consulate in the mainly Kurdish city of Erbil in northern Iraq…detaining at least five Iranian employees in the building and seizing some property, according to Iraqi and Iranian officials and witnesses.”

Hmmm: violating the sovereign integrity of a foreign consulate and taking its staff captive. That sounds oddly familiar…
