Agreed

Sirota says he’s already sick of the presidential race and I have to agree. Seriously. I can’t take this for two more years and I’m a politics junkie (and currently writing something about the ‘08 race. Ugh.) I don’t want to cannibalize an essay I’m mulling over, but I think the focus on candidates and their personalities promotes a view of politics that is breath-takingly wrong-headed. Of course, to write interesting articles, you need to have a human element (“People like to read about other people!” by book agent always says), so I understand why there’s an institutional bias towards personalities. But it’s just not what drives politics.
