Sekou Sundiata, RIP

Back when I was 17 and an aspiring poet (yes, yes) I once opened for Sekou Sundiata at a small cafe in the Bronx. I was so bowled over by his work and his performance that night that I wrote a poem about him, which, luckily, has been lost to some ancient file format. I was reminded of this last night as I listened ot a podcast of Fresh Air dedicated to remembering Sundiata who died this week at the too-young age of 58. He will be missed.
