Speaking of Wellstone, back in 2005, when I was working on an essay for In These Times about how important grassroots evangelizing was for progressive revival, I got my hands on a small book written by Paul Wellstone called How the Rural Power Got Power (You can purchaes a copy here.) The book is not glamorous or sweeping, it simply recounts the organizing efforst of a small group called the Organization for a Better Rice County. But it’s as graceful and powerful an introduction to organizing as anything I’ve read. I highly recommend it.
