"I Wrote This Testimony Myself"

So said Gen. Petraeus in the beginning of his testimony today;. “It has not been cleared by, nor shared with, anyone in the Pentagon, the White House, or Congress.” OK, fair enough. But a tiny little detail caught my ear. He closed; by saying “it remains an enormous privilege to soldier again in Iraq with America’s new ‘Greatest Generation.’”

Which is funny, because just minutes before Gen. Petraeus spoke, GOP congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen expressed her gratitude to the new “Greatest Generation” of Americans, who are serving in Iraq.

Clearly this was a mere coincidence and not the result of both the congresswoman and the general taking their cues from the same set of talking points.
